Brake Pump Reassembly: Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, Shadow II & Bentley T1/T2

Welcome back to the second installment of our in-depth guide on Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Brake Pumps. In this part, we will meticulously walk you through the process of reassembling your brake pump. This information is paramount for specialists working on models such as Rolls-Royce Corniche, Silver Wraith II, as well as Bentley T1 & T2. Don't miss the full video tutorial, accessible here.

Preparing for Reassembly

Before commencing the reassembly, ensure that you have thoroughly cleaned all components. New seal kits and springs should be readily available. Furthermore, take the time to flatten off the bottom of the non-return valve and its washer using 1500 grit wet and dry paper on a flat surface.

Assembling the Non-Return Valve

Firstly, insert the actual valve part, followed by the spring and the end stop. While lining up the end stop, lift the valve to centralize the assembly. Ensure the circlip is properly inserted to hold everything in place.

Brake Pump Housing and Internal O-ring

Proceed by inserting the internal O-ring into the brake pump housing. The O-ring needs to sit securely inside the internal groove. Use your finger to help guide it into the correct position.

Installing the Barrel and Washers

Slide the barrel into position, making sure it makes contact with the O-ring. Next, install the spacer washer, wavy washer, and the sprung washer. Ensure these are all centrally aligned. These components set the gap between the barrel top and the non-return valve.

Final Assembly Steps

Insert the chamfered washer that is included in the kit, seating it at the bottom of the adapter. This washer serves to hold down the one-way valve and seal the top. Now, insert the main spring, piston adapter, and the piston itself. Ensure everything is properly aligned before securing with the circlip. Lastly, attach the external O-rings for the shroud.
