Reconditioning Accumulator Valve Bodies Part 2 : Reassembly

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing quality parts and valuable resources for Rolls-Royce and Bentley enthusiasts worldwide, we are excited to bring you a detailed tutorial, led by Matt Duncan, on reassembling accumulator valve bodies. These key components, which are crucial for models running RR363 brake fluid, are no longer available directly from the factory. Therefore, reconditioning these units has become an essential process. This is part 2 of a 3 part tutorial.

Reassembling Accumulator Valve Bodies: A Must-know for Rolls-Royce and Bentley Owners

The reconditioning process commences with the careful cleaning and preparation of valve bodies, followed by replacing the seals on the pistons. Matt demonstrates the correct method to remove the old seals and apply new ones, emphasizing the importance of doing this in one fluid motion to ensure a tight fit.

Once the seals are successfully in place, the valve bodies are filled with RR363 brake fluid for lubrication, and the pistons are carefully inserted. Each piston is fitted with a new spring and aluminum cap, accompanied by the meticulous addition of O-rings and a secondary seal.

The valve bodies are then reassembled, each with its respective spring seat, spring, and seat. Attention to detail is paramount here, with Matt making sure that each part is installed correctly and that each seal is generously coated with fluid.

In the final stages of the assembly, the cap is added, completing the valve body. Though the cap nut will need to be torqued, it's left loose for the time being until the testing phase ensures no further adjustments are required.

The result? Two assembled valve bodies ready for testing. Matt concludes the assembly process with a discussion on some of the leftover parts in the kit and provides some helpful insights on alternative tools that can be used during assembly.

Remember to change the accumulator spheres whenever the valve body gets changed!
