SILVER SPIRIT / SILVER SPUR

(Also known as Silver Spirit 1)

This is a 4-door full-size luxury car sedan type, produced from 1980 to 1989. The Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit was really a clever rebody of the outgoing Silver Shadow - brought up to date with a little more power, and more angular styling. The new cars showed a considerably improved ride and roadholding not at least due to the new Girling automatic height control in combination with gas shock absorbers. As expected the cars were luxuriously appointed with sumptuous leather seats and deep pile carpets giving the utmost comfort and a veneer covered fascia retaining a traditional appearance. In addition to long wheelbase versions limousines became available with extended passenger compartments

SILVER SPUR CENTENARY

This is a 4-door full-size luxury car sedan type, produced from 1985. The year 1985 was the year in which England celebrated 100 years of motoring. It was the year too, when the 100,000th motor car having been finished by Rolls-Royce was celebrated by the manufacturer. All the Derby- and Crewe-built Bentleys were included in the production figure 100,000. The company had taken their time, 81 years to be exact and this would have met with Sir Henry Royce's approval who had been a brilliant engineer and no rookie salesman. It was but appropriate that the company intended to use the Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Centenary side by side with the other ambassadors of British engineering at its best

CORNICHE II

(Also known as Corniche 2)

This is a 4-door full-size luxury car sedan type, produced from 1987 to 1989. Rolls-Royce's coachbuilding division Mulliner Park Ward was keeping up the tradition of producing handbuilt convertibles. To meet European laws governing the size of exposed components several changes became necessary including a modified hood and a retractable Flying Lady mascot; obeying emission legislation in Japan as well as in the United States had resulted in fuel injection been fitted. A variety of minor alterations (e.g. aluminium radiator, external oil cooler) rounded up the process of modernization which was heralded by the new name Rolls-Royce Corniche II.

This is a 4-door full-size luxury car sedan type, produced from 1989 to 1993. Ten inches more room for rear seat passengers on the long wheelbase Silver Spur II distinguished this model. The new automatic ride control eliminated the need to compromise damper settings between the softness necessary for good ride comfort and the stiffness needed to limit roll on corners by adapting within split-seconds to changes in road conditions. A redesigned fascia reflecting an extensive programme of ergonomics research was but one other vital modification enhancing the new models.

This is a 4-door full-size luxury car coupe type, produced from 1989 to 1992. Redesigned cylinder heads and manifolding were responsible for an increase in power output. Airbags for both driver and front seat passenger were standard now and the separate rear seats of the Silver Spur III could be individually adjusted. Rolls-Royce was keen to fulfill any customer's request: to fit a cassette player and small television monitors in the back of each of the front seat head restraints were almost considered as minor - on the extended R-R Silver Spur III Touring Limousine a multitude of extras could be specified.

CORNICHE IV

(Also known as Corniche 4)

This is a 2-door full-size luxury car convertible type, produced from 1993 to 1996. A new hood made an end once and for all to soft rearlights being scratched because now a solution had been found to fit a genuine glass rear light. The fixing mechanism was a more advanced one too locking the hood automatically to the windscreen frame which operation previously had asked for manual action.

FLYING SPUR

This is a 4-door full-size luxury car coupe type, produced from 1994 to 1995. The Flying Spur was the first ever turbocharged Rolls-Royce and the press release advised that only a limited series was intended to see the light of day. Power-output was more than sufficient and in a most civilized manner this car offered level of performance which was a new dimension for Rolls-Royce motor car. The name Flying Spur could be traced back to the Johnstone family, whose coat of arms had shown "Flying Spur".

LATEST SILVER SPIRIT / SILVER SPUR

This is a 4-door full-size luxury car coupe type, produced from 1995 to 1998. Speculation as regards a completely new model range from Rolls-Royce within rather short period after the company's announcement that the future generation of Rolls-Royce motor cars would be powered by a new engine developed in conjunction with BMW (Bavarian Motor Works) showed to have been weakly based. Rolls-Royce introduced their "New" Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn, "New" Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit and "New" Rolls-Royce Silver Spur towards the end of 1995 and left it open to further speculation whether or not these perfectly refined models now were those to gap the interim until a completely new model generation would emerge.
