SILVER SHADOW I

(Also known as Silver Shadow 1)

This is a 4-door full-size luxury car sedan type, produced from 1965 to 1977. Out went the old palatial style, to be replaced by a more contemporary three-box style - and it certainly worked, because the Silver Shadow and its Bentley counterpart, the T-Series became the company's best-selling cars to date.

The advancements over the Cloud were many - the Silver Shadow boasted unitary construction, all-round disc brakes and self-levelling suspension. But because of the sheer size and scale of the new Rolls-Royce, it carried off all of these advancements in style.

Technical Data:

CORNICHE

This is a 2-door full-size luxury car coupe or convertible type, produced from 1971 to 1987. Interestingly, the car was launched before its name, appearing as the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow two-door saloon in 1966. Its huge additional cost over the car it was based upon was down to its coachbuilt body, handcrafted by Mulliner Park Ward, and with a build time of six months.

CAMARGUE

This is a 2-door full-size luxury car coupe type, produced from 1975 to 1986. The Camargue was famed for pioneering a complex dual level climate control system which was used in later Rolls Royce cars. SILVER SHADOW II / SILVER WRAITH II

(Also known as Silver Shadow 2, Silver Wraith 2)

This is a 4-door full-size luxury car sedan type, produced from 1977 to 1980. The Shadow went through its only major revision in 1977. Its delicate chromed bumpers were replaced with rubber-faced bashers capable of meeting U.S. 5-MPH impact requirements, while rack-and-pinion steering succeeded the earlier recirculating-ball setup; passengers were even further coddled with a two-level air-conditioning system. The dashboard went through a complete redesign, with the bulk of the surrounding padding pared down. There were so many changes, more than 2,000 in all, that Rolls-Royce re-christened the car the Silver Shadow II; its Bentley stablemate became the T2. The long-wheelbase Shadow now wore the Silver Wraith II name.
